Hi, As for the first problem, I suggest using the Poisson's distribution. Based on the data, or the datasheet of the fishing ground, you can assess Mean Time To Failure and then the risk of damage over the year. How far should the fishing ground be installed from the main passage of merchant ships? It depends on several factors: 1) dimensions of the fishing ground 2) is the fishing ground fixed or not? 3) Ocean current and its strength. General speaking, it depends on the data you have. Is it possible any risk assessment based on the fishing ground and the lateral distances from the centerline? Frankly speaking, if I understood well your questions, you should read the datasheet and find out what is the maximum shear stress can be applied to the fishing ground, then try to estimate what is the maximum pressure is actually applied in practice (i.e. estimating it from the data you have) and then check if the obtained value is bigger than the maximum one of the fishing ground.
