Podcast and Personal ID and Assets

I am starting a new podcast/show. The show/content I create is meant to be bigger than the stereotypical rock/metal thing. As an example of something I don’t want--many metal band names are really busy and so stylized that you can hardly read them. It’s become a trope/meme. I want to try and break away from the cliches. Other examples include skulls and metal horns. And while I get that those are identifiable, I think they perpetuate what is sometimes called the metal-ghetto. If you look up metal podcasts, you’ll see a lot of metal horns, flames, guys that look like Eddie (Iron Maiden’s mascot), pentagrams, and other cliches, or just bad logos, or just the title in a bad font. One direction I’d like to explore an image that can embody the IDEA of Breaking Absolutes, which is my show’s name, which is about getting beyond the stereotypes and the walls that exist between genres of rock, and even rock/metal and other music genres. I want to build a show that gets away from stereotypes, by breaking down what we think we know, and lifting up the great musicianship, ideas, supportiveness, power, etc., that is in rock and metal. I want Breaking Absolutes to be like a brand, so that when it goes on a T-shirt and other merch, it will be like a badge of honor people are wearing that says they are part of a movement of tearing down those walls, and preconceptions, and that they stand with pride in the power of the music while being willing to share a common bond with others in music of all kinds. (By the way, I don’t think the image of breaking walls works.) That said, I do want the logo to have an edge. It needs a cool factor. Something that a rock and metal fan would wear on a t-shirt and think is legit. But again, I’d like the idea to go beyond the typical imagery, but something that is also immediately understandable and identifiable. You might Google things like the very term “absolute.” You can look at my description above for inspiration on image ideas. And there is even musical concepts around “absolute pitch” and “absolute music”—I don’t know if those are helpful, but maybe look them up and they will give you more ideas. I’m hoping for a logo and wordmark for it that can be like a cultural movement, something that has a meaning that transcends the same old connotations of rock and metal. In doing this, I actually intend to bring more people to embrace this great music, by seeing it in a new way. Think of all the people who wear T-shirts of cool brands who didn’t start out being die-hards. In this way, the show/idea of Breaking Absolutes is more than just a podcast. The challenge to you is to come up with something that is powerful, cool, something someone would wear with pride, is identifiable as belonging to the family of rock/metal, but is a bigger idea, strong and inclusive, breaking past the absolutes that restrict our expression, our thinking, and our musical tastes.
