Mobile Fishing Apps

Components to be developed Database Fish guide database Information from the Fish Farm or another source, consisting of photos, classification parameters and descriptions. Fish statistics database Information gathered by end-users, such as photos, and GPS coordinates and maps of the Namoi. Approval queue database The approval queue will contain end-user submissions for approval by the database administrator. Upon approval, these entries are moved to the Fish Statistics database. Namoi Fish App 5 Mobile apps The mobile apps will be native, i.e. all of the data that the apps need will be loaded into the user’s phone so that the apps will work without a network connection. The app data will be synchronized with the central Fish guide database when there is a data or wifi connection available. There will be an automatic synchronization feature which will be set to «wifi only» by default and which can be modified or disabled in the app settings. The user interface of the app will be child friendly. The apps, including updates, can be distributed via the Namoi Water website ([login to view URL]) and/or via iTunes (iOS) and the Play Store (Android), whichever is preferable. This choice will not affect the cost of releasing new updates. There will be an «automatic updates» feature which will be enabled by default. The app will check the current OS version prior to running automatic updates in order to ensure the compatibility between the app and the OS. If the OS of the end-user’s mobile device does not support the latest update then the user will be given the choice to either upgrade the OS (and the app) or keep using the existing version of the app. The iOS app will work on iPhone and iPad devices with iOS 5 or higher. The Android app will work on Android phones and tablets with Android API level 8 or higher. Monitoring tool This tool will enable end-users to submit monitoring data for approval by the database administrator. An administrative interface will be developed for this (see below: Administrative Tools). Each data entry will include a photo, GPS coordinates, location habitat description as well as a description of the fish. Interactive e-book Functionality: • Intro/preface/info/legal pages • Search/browse function • Search/browse page (main page of this function) • Search/browse results page (template) • Fish profile page (template) • Supporting pages (habitat, food and size icons etc, linked from the dynamically generated Fish profile pages) Administrative Tools Fish statistics Database administration The administrative tool will allow full control over the contents of the Fish statistics database and the approval queue, and will have the following functions: • Search entries by date, location, fish name, habitat and GPS coordinates • Browse entries date, location, fish name, habitat • Delete entries • View submitted entries • Approve/decline submitted entries Namoi Fish App 6 Note: The administrative tool does not cover the management of the Fish guide database.
