Seeking the creation of a SQL Server 2000 DTS package. The purpose is to import data from a group of text files stored on a network shared folder.
The destination table doesn't exist yet, so the data can simply be imported into generic tables - table1, table2, table10, etc., with an equally generic field naming scheme. Text fields can be varchar type and numbers can be numeric, decimal, etc. I can make tighten-up later.
The files use a naming convention that reveals their content date ??" Base Name + YYMMDD .PRN. However, the content date is not listed in the file. Here are examples: [login to view URL], [login to view URL], [login to view URL], [login to view URL], [login to view URL], [login to view URL], [login to view URL], [login to view URL], [login to view URL], M041026.PRN.
I would like each file to be imported into a separate table with the table and field guide as previously mentioned. Now the tricky part....I would also like each table to contain a date column. The value for date in each of the rows should be the content date - the date portion of the filename convention.
Most of the files are basic comma delimited. One of them has 7 long records begining with a field called name. This one may be a bit trickier, but let me know if you need more info.
