You could try adding a new administrator account: ...: like current account: CREATE USER 'myuser'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'mypass'; GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'monty'@'localhost' WITH GRANT OPTION; ... additional account for external access could/would be: CREATE USER 'myuser'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'mypass'; GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'myuser'@'%' WITH GRANT OPTION; FLUSH PRIVILEGES; quit; ("quit" to exit the mysql console) You can access mysql console in server/linux shell with: mysql -u root -p ... after this command the sql server want have teh password for the mysql-root-user. Notice tu use a very secure password for external access and/or use firewall for acess limit and/or alternate Port for the mysql server ... (instead of 3306)
