I have a MOES solar power transfer switch. This device seamlessly switches power from inverter power to mains power and vice versa. The problem with this device is that it switches by detecting the battery voltage and not the actual remaining power in the battery bank. This is a problem when using high inductive loads such as the electric kettle or washing machine etc as this pulls the voltage down temporarily while the heating element is on and causes the the solar switch to switch back to grid power because it has dropped below the voltage threshold. I have a Victron smart shunt that accurately measures the real time remaining power in the battery. I’m looking for a way to use the smart shunt information and somehow bridge that gap between the smart shunt and the switching unit. Maybe a raspberry PI? If some can solve this problem it would make a perfect system.

Greetings. Very interesting project. My name is Prabhath, and electrical engineer by profession with Utility Industry Experience. I went through the MOES ATS and Smart Shunt. I have several proposals. As I feel, we can do control using ESP32. It will be reliable in long term than raspberry pi (SD Card failures). 1. Forget the MOES and purchase a STS. Use an ESP32 to read battery level from smart shunt and control the STS accordingly. 2. Create a synthetic analog signal using esp32 and smart shunt to mimic the battery percentage and feed that signal to ATS. 3. Create a filter ( which will hide sudden dips) and feed the filter output to MOES. This has to be designed carefully. Let's discuss these thoughts in details. Thank you for reading.

Hi,from what I understand the smart shunt you have switches only based on the battery voltage available for instance your battery is full and mains is present but the system does not switch untill battery falls below a certain level? I have a reliable and simplistic design approach I hope to implement for your system where the system will always switch when mains is present regardless of the battery voltage,i intend to make the design as simple as possible but I will need other details such as schematics or wiring diagram to your system to help me understand better.
